Coffs Harbour

The East coast of NSW and particularly the drive between Sydney and Brisbane has so much on offer. Miles of beautiful white sandy beaches, towns and villages dotted along the way each with their own uniqueness, luscious untouched rainforests and so many activities on offer you won’t know where to start. We decided to hire our campervan through and took our time with this great journey.

One of our first stopping points was the Great Lakes region. Its only 3 hours from Sydney and it is celebrated for its magnificent coastline, numerous national parks and state forests to explore.

Further up the coast is the Port Macquarie area and specifically Bonny Hills and North Haven, located just South of the city. They are a great place to stay, to experience the beaches, spectacular views and boutique shops of this cosmopolitan city.

Visiting Coffs Harbour

The major coastal resort of Coffs Harbour and the surrounding towns and villages boasts great restaurants, activities & attractions as well as the Dorrigo National Park and Solitary Islands Marine Park. It’s a great spot for water sport enthusiasts, whether you’re a surfer or a fisherman. Another couple of hours North is the fishing and surfing village of Evans Head and then the larger town of Ballina, where you can stock up on all your essentials! Onto Lennox Head, this small town is definitely not to be missed, with its lovely cafes and beautiful 7 mile beach.

Byron Bay, The Surfers Town

Just 15 minutes North of Lennox Head is the world-renowned Byron Bay, which proudly offers some of the most famous surfing and festival experiences to be had in an Australian rural destination. A stone’s throw North of Byron Bay is the beautiful boutique town of Brunswick Heads, offering the same cosmopolitan cafes and lifestyle as Byron yet has kept a village atmosphere that is cherished by locals and visitors alike.

Campgrounds vs. The Wild

As for sleeping arrangements…if you prefer the comfortable approach to camping and like modern comforts…North Coast Holiday Parks has a selection of 23 holiday parks dotted along the NSW coastline, from as far South as Hawks Nest up to the lovely village of Brunswick Heads in the North. We decided to take the wild approach and really enjoyed the freedom it delivers.

We really enjoyed our amazing trip and highly recommend you to discover the beauty of the Mid to North East Coast and take home memories for all your friends and family to hear.
